Get Growing - Horticulture Level 3
What will I learn?
The purpose of this programme is to provide the horticulture sector with graduates who have a theoretical knowledge of plants, fruit production, and growing systems and environments to underpin practical capability in a range of horticulture sectors
Course content includes:
- How to identify plants
- Purning
- How to apply fertiliser
- Soil types
- Plant, pests and diseases
- Plant propagatoin
- Fruit production
- Crop harvesting and Irrigation systems
How can this course help me?
This course will give you the New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture (General) Level 3
On completion of this programme, you will be able to:
- Apply knowledge of plant and soils science to the identification, selection and growing of plants
- Apply knowledge of growing systems and environments to the establishment and growing plants
You will be able to apply to higher levels of learning such the New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture Services (Level 4)
How long is the course?
This course runs for 20 weeks.
When? Where?
Intakes – from early March onwards.
Courses will run from 9am – 3 pm at our Thames Training site.
Work expeirence is offered two days per week - you also be working in the Horticulture sector whilst studying
Entry requirements
- You must be 16 years and above.
- You will be required to supply a birth certificate as proof of identity.

Horticulture Level 4 - Fruit Production
What will I learn?
The purpose of this programme is to provide the horticulture industry with graduates who have the skills and knowledge to supervise operations in Fruit Production
Course content includes:
- Supervise fruit crop haresting
- Irrigation systems
- Plan a fertiliser programme
- Manage pollination of a fruit crop
- Plant, pests and diseases
- Soil properties
- Environmental Factors
Elective Strands include:
- Fruit trees
- Vines
- Berry fruit
How can this course help me?
This course will give you the New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture Level 4 (Fruit Production)
On completion of this programme, you will be able to:
- Supervise adn provide instruction to team members using a range of effective communication and interpersonal skills relevant to a horticulture sector
- Implement and monitor fruit production operations to achieve production goals and standards
- Implement and monitor fruit crop management techniques to optimise fruit production
You will be able to apply to higher levels of learning such the New Zealand Certificate Diploma Horticulture Production (Level 5)
How long is the course?
This course runs part time for 45 weeks.
When? Where?
Intakes – from early September onwards.
Classes will run from 9am – 3 pm fortnightly at our Thames Training site.
This programme is intented to be delivered in the workplace
Entry requirements
- You must be 16 years and above.
- You will be required to supply a birth certificate as proof of identity.
