Overview
The main aim of this programme is to provide those without any formal qualifications to gain confidence, motivation, core foundation and computer skills to continue higher level education or employment in entry level positions and to be successful in their chosen path.
Gain your NCEA Level One standards so you can join the workforce with confidence. Learn at your own pace in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere - we make learning fun!
This programme also allows you to attend one week work placement to gain valuable 'work ready skills'

Monday to Friday from 8.30am - 3pm at our Thames training site

The Programme runs for 20 weeks

What will I learn?
You will learn a broad range of real-life skills to give you a kick-start into further training or employment:
- Organising your personal life
- Maintain personal well-being
- Strategies for continued learning
- Work in a new workplace
- Diversity in the workplace
- Community services
- Team work
- Interviews
- Introduction to computers using specified information
How will this course help me?
You will be able to progress to study or training in at level 2, and/or the NCEA (Level 2) and/or New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Level 2). Some graduates may be able to progress directly to study or training at level 3.
You will be able to participate effectively with whānau and wider communities, and may gain work in a structured entry-level role

If you are 16-19 years old you can apply.
- Applicants must have NZ citizenship or residency status.

What do I need to bring to class?
Just yourself and your lunch!
We have a shared fridge in our kitchenette with hot refreshments for break times. Our buildings are kept nice and warm in the winter.
All course related materials, books, stationary and alternative equipment is supplied.
I don't have transport
We have a FREE pick up and drop off service in the Thames, Ngatea, Paeroa and Waihi regions
Need a little extra help?
We have on-site literacy an numeracy tutor that will assist you.
The programme is approved by the New Zealand Qualfications Authority under section 249 of the Education Act 1989, and Valley Education and Training Enterprises Limited is accrediated to provide it under section 250 of the Act
