What will I learn?
- Breeds and classes of cattle
- Safe handling and health problems of dairy cattle (dairy option)
- Hazards, hazard control, and consequences of injury in a rural workplace
- Intro to motorbikes and quad bikes
- Fencing
- Weed control
- Animal health and welfare
- Milking
How can this programme help me?
This course will give you the Vocational Pathway in Primary Industries endorsed with NCEA Level 2
On completion of this programme, you will have the necessary basic knowledge and skills for working safely in either the cattle or dairy industries, with regards to stock handling, fencing and maintenance, and the use of farm vehicles.
You will be able to apply to higher levels of learning such as those listed below:
- New Zealand Certificate in Agriculture (Farming Systems) Level 3
- New Zealand Certificate in Agriculture (Vehicles, Machinery and Infrastructure), Level 3
How long is this programme?
This course runs for 25 weeks.
When? Where?
Intakes – from early March onwards.
Courses will run from 8.30am – 3.00pm at our Thames Training site.
You will also spend up to three days per week completing work experience - offering 'real world training' which may lead to employment
Entry requirements
You must be 16 years and above.
You will be required to supply a birth certificate as proof of identity
Studylink Loans and Allowances approved
What do I need to bring to class?
Just yourself and your lunch!
We have a shared fridge in our kitchenette with hot refreshments for break times. Our buildings are kept nice and warm in the winter.
All course related materials, books, stationary and alternative equipment is supplied.
I don't have transport ...
We have a FREE pick up and drop off service in the Thames, Ngatea, Paeroa and Waihi areas.
